UFC star Khabib Nurmagomedov is set to link up with coach Javier Mendez next month as he prepares for his return to the Octagon.
The undefeated star is set to fight Justin Gaethje this year despite the tragic recent death of his father.
Khabib’s father and coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, was placed in a medically-induced coma after being admitted to the hospital in May in Moscow.
He underwent emergency bypass surgery as doctors stabilised his condition.
However, the MMA coach lost his battle for life last month to leave his family devastated.
Initial reports suggested Khabib was planning to retire but he ultimately confirmed he would come back.
And now he has revealed on Instagram he will be working with Mendez at the American Kickboxing Academy in preparation for Gaethje.
He wrote on Instagram: “It will be hard preparation, in September we will be together with the @akajav Miss you coach. @bukaboxing.”
The pair already enjoy a close relationship having worked together previously.
Abdulmanap and Mendez were both in Khabib’s corner for UFC 242 last year in Abu Dhabi.
That night the lightweight king defended his title by submitting Dustin Poirier in the second round.
Mendez recently said he had not spoken directly to Khabib following his father’s death but had left him a voicemail message.

He said on the day of his passing: “This is a great loss.
“Everyone has so much respect for Khabib, and his father raised him to be the man that he’s become.
“I was hoping God would give us a break and allow him to recover, but I woke up to this horrible news today.”
